With CBD’s growing popularity, we’ve seen lots of complex CBD products appear in the inventories of manufacturers. CBD isolate isn’t one of them. In fact, it’s one of the least elaborate CBD products you can find. That being said, it’s incredibly versatile. In this article, we take a closer look at what CBD powder is, how it works, and all the things you can do with it.
What is CBD powder?
CBD powder is a type of CBD extract that only contains the molecule CBD. Most other types of hemp extract, like broad and full-spectrum CBD extract, contain more than just CBD. Full-spectrum CBD extract contains a whole range of different cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids, and so does broad-spectrum extract, minus THC.
By contrast, CBD powder comes in a solid format and doesn’t contain any other cannabinoids and terpenes. It is simply pure CBD.
How is CBD powder made?
CBD powder actually starts off as CBD oil. To make it, manufacturers take the buds, hemps, and stalks of the hemp plant and press them down into an oil. Next, CBD is extracted from this oil using carbon dioxide extraction (CO2-extraction), or solvents. But alongside CBD, other cannabinoids and terpenes also get extracted. So the product isn’t CBD powder yet at this point.
The next step is to filter the oil with technological filters that can remove most traces of other chemical compounds. Finally, the last stage is “winterization”, a process that removes other hemp molecules and turns the CBD extract into a white powder or crystals.
What are the effects of CBD powder?
A lot of scientists use CBD powder or CBD isolate powder in their experiments. This is because they only want to test the effects of CBD on the body, not the effects of CBD and other hemp molecules. So we do have some data on the effects of CBD powder.
These studies suggest that pure CBD can relieve pain, inflammation, nausea, vomiting, stress, anxiety, and even depression.
That being said, there is also some evidence that CBD isolate powder isn’t as effective as broad- or full-spectrum CBD extract. This is because cannabinoids and terpenes can strengthen the effects of CBD, through a process known as the “entourage effect”. With CBD powder, you’ll be getting the pure effects of just CBD. But you may need to take more milligrams of it to feel an effect, compared with other types of extracts.
How can I use CBD powder?
CBD powder is incredibly versatile. For example, it’s both water-soluble and oil-soluble. This means that you can add your CBD powder to drinks, sodas, smoothies, and even coffee. You can also add it to food and make CBD gummies, treats, or cookies. That being said, when baking with CBD powder, make sure not to get the product heated up too much, as this will make it lose in potency. As much as possible, keep your baking to a temperature below 400°F.
CBD powder can also be taken pure. The most effective way to do so is to place a little CBD powder directly under your tongue. That way, the CBD molecules can travel to your bloodstream straight through the sublingual gland. This provides faster results than taking CBD orally.
Finally, there is the option of mixing CBD powder with lotion or moisturizer to create a topical CBD product. You can make your own products using raw ingredients (cocoa butter, shea butter, essential oils…) or just add it to your favorite body butter or face moisturizer. Add more to create a strong pain relief balm, or less for an extra-hydrating, soothing facial moisturizer.
CBD Products that use CBD powder
Because broad and full-spectrum CBD extract are considered more “powerful”, most CBD products contain those instead of CBD powder. But CBD powder-based products exist. For example, CBD water or soda is made using CBD powder. Scroll down for our selection of high-quality CBD isolate powder products
Because broad or full-spectrum CBD extract is better suited for oil-based products like CBD tincture or CBD cream, you won’t find a lot of products that use CBD isolate. But these dry CBD bath salts by CBDfx make full use of the potential of CBD powder.
These relaxing bath salts are made with Celtic sea salt, soothing bicarbonate, and some great essential oils. They come in two versions: a “detox” version and a “tranquil” version. The detox one contains fresh peppermint essential oil, tangy lemongrass and bergamot essential oils. They’re great bathsalts for a hot summer day, or for relaxing after a strenuous exercise session. The tranquil bath salts have a more calming scent, with lavender essential oil and jasmine absolute. They’re the perfect option for a luxurious bath when you just want to leave all your troubles at the door.
We love the fact that these bath salts contain a relatively high dose of CBD (100mg per package!) and bath salts ingredient that soothe your skin and revitalise your spirit. For just $9.99 per package, they’re an affordable product that also makes a great gift.
